Pre-Wax Care Tips — How to Prepare for Your Waxing Appointment
Follow these pre-wax care tips from Wax Me Too to get the best results from your waxing appointment.
Hair length: let hair grow to at least 1/4 inch (about 2–3 weeks from your last shave). This is the minimum length for the wax to grip effectively. If hair is too short, we may need to reschedule your appointment.
Exfoliation: exfoliate gently 24–48 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and help prevent ingrown hairs. Do not exfoliate on the day of your appointment, as this can make skin more sensitive.
Skin care products to avoid: do not use retinol, AHAs (glycolic acid, lactic acid), or BHAs (salicylic acid) for 48 hours before waxing. These ingredients thin the skin and increase the risk of lifting or irritation during waxing.
Day of appointment: do not apply lotion, oils, body butter, or self-tanner to the areas being waxed. Clean, dry skin allows the wax to adhere properly. Avoid caffeine before sensitive-area waxing (Brazilian, bikini) as it can increase skin sensitivity.
Sun exposure: avoid prolonged sun exposure or tanning beds for 24–48 hours before your appointment. Sunburned skin cannot be waxed.
